Youth Development: World youth leaders share their views on youth development in the age of AI

  

As the digital landscape continues to evolve at an unprecedented pace, the role of artificial intelligence in shaping the future of youth development has become a central topic of global discourse. At a recent gathering of world youth leaders in China's Chongqing, experts from various fields came together to share their insights on how digital technology empowers youth innovation, and the role of young people in the age of artificial intelligence. A subforum of the World Youth Development Forum on digital development took place on Thursday in Chongqing. Over 230 young people, international organization leaders, and experts in digital development engaged in discussions on the theme of "Skills and Industries in the Age of Artificial Intelligence."

The event highlighted the need for global youth to seize digital opportunities and explore international cooperation on AI development and governance. Entrepreneurs from various countries shared how digital technologies empower youth development in areas like sustainable development and virtual reality.

LI LI CEO of Chongqing Yunwei Technology Co., Ltd. "In the past couple of years, the rise of generative AI has been a great opportunity for many young people. It's lowered the tech barriers, so we can quickly turn our ideas into reality and rapidly expand our creativity and inspiration."

During the forum's youth dialogue session, young entrepreneurs and engineers from around the world discussed the opportunities and challenges brought by current digital technology, highlighting the responsibilities of youth in the era of artificial intelligence.

KRISTIAN KALINAK Machine Learning Engineer of Versiro "The way I see that all of the youth in this digital era, at least from the side of the way the things currently are the education, for example, I educate my parents on how to use technology like large language models and these things. And also it is for us to use it responsibly. So research is now going very fast, and usually the security and things like that fall behind. So it's our job to make sure those things are responsibly used."

MARY KENT Skills and Employability Specialist, ILO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific "They have such an opportunity to play in digitalization and the evolution of generative AI in the world of work, their role is really going to need to be to engage with governments, academia, employers, to look at the world of skills and to make their voice heard in how the technology is used in the workplace."
